Chapter 2 Page 13
Comments Contest!
The Guns of Shadow Valley weekly comments contest starts this week! To enter the contest, all you need to do is leave a comment on the Guns website for one of this week’s new pages. Once your comment is approved, you are entered into the contest to win a free original mini sketch, made custom just for you, of any one character you choose.
These mini sketches will be like the ones done recently for the Monster Mini Sketch Sale last month: they are 4×6, ink and ink wash. If you win that week, you will be notified and asked what character you would like drawn for your very own mini sketch. The sketch will be lovingly created by series artist Dave Wachter and hand delivered to your address by a uniformed member of the United States Postal Service. There will be one winner per week. One word posts, spam, or comments lacking any insight or effort will not be considered. Only approved comments will enter you in the contest, so make them thoughtful/entertaining/funny, and of course, make the comments relative to that comic page or the story as a whole. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Here’s a selection of sketch cards as examples of what you can receive as a winner:

Oh this is gonna be good. As always I hate you and your stinking talent *snaps pencils… shuffles away grumbling*

As usual, another intriguing chapter. I can’t get enough of this story! I really love the unique mix of genres you’ve got here — I guess you’d call it western / fantasy? (Nah, that sounds too much like something from City Slickers). In any case, it feels like you guys are just getting warmed up, setting your pieces up on the board. The characters have me intrigued, I can’t wait to learn more. The art is awesome, Dave! You’re one of those guys who can draw anything well! The inking makes it really sing, I presume it’s brush?
One last thing, I really like the inclusion of the Chinese community into the story and especially the hint of some martial arts philosophy right at the end of today’s strip. The Chinese contribution to the forging of the west is a pretty neglected element in most Western genre fiction, so kudos to you guys for (hopefully) making it a major story element.
Thanks for all the great work!!

Still lookin’ good guys. I have to agree with Matt, too. I am really digging the inclusion of the Chinese railroad workers. To me it really helps round out the world you’ve created.
On the negative side, that was really uncool of you Dave. I mean being so talented that poor Andy had to break his pencils? That just seems uncalled for. 😉

I didn’t break Andy’s pencils!

Another great chapter Dave. Your art for the story has been simply amazing. Great work my friend.

Dave breaks my pencils all the time.

Matt, I use a brush pen for all the inking work. Acts much as a brush does, but a little more predictable. As for the Chinese element, I’ve always been interested in that aspect of the development of the West. I think you’ll be seeing more from a few of those characters as the story progresses. The American West was a place where different people from many different places came together in both peace and conflict.

Lookin’ nice. Sorry, that makes for a lame contest entry.

He’s gonna crush that boulder Iron Fist style.

Liking the John Henry vibe I’m getting from this character. My favorite character is the drunk gunslinger. Looking forward to seeing how these characters (and the burping flamethrower) all come together.
