Man, I REALLY love the panel layout on the top half of the page. The shape of that first panel is perfect, and it the way it sort of sneaks its way in to the panels around it goes a long way to tell readers that potentially serious trouble is looming.
I wonder if the big quiet guy is going to notice the man in the bushes he seems to be the only level headed one in the bunch at the moment… that is if he could get a word in edgewise.
Ok, I had to look up “shavetail”. I’m thinking Frank has had some army experience?
I’m not sure if Pearl is psychic or just a good people reader – if she was psychic, you’d think she’d notice the hostility emanating from that bush…
The big guy is certainly more phlegmatic than the rest, but they are all, even he, distracted by their own concerns. Not conducive to noticing concealed pistoleros.
Thirded (or whatever) on the leaves panel. But the panel where he’s mounting up doesn’t look quite right. It looks like he’s got his weight on his right leg while it’s in the left stirrup. If he swings his leg around like that he’s gonna kick his horse in the head and end up backwards in the saddle.
I’ve gotta disagree with Elle on the leg/saddle issue. We can’t see his lower half, but if he had his right foot in the left stirrup with all his weight on it, he’d be standing quite a bit higher.
As everyone said, the leaves panel is superb. I’m still blown away how you go from pencils to inks to the digital coloring because it looks like straight up watercolors to my untrained eyes. I love the captured moment in the top right of Frank looking down.
Guess it’s just me then. I still think it looks like he’s getting on the horse backwards. Then again my experience is with English saddles. Maybe the size of the western saddle is throwing off my perception.
I’m way late to the party, but I have to side with Elle. He is already facing forward and looks like he is leaning right up against the horse. Also his right hand is on the saddle horn. If that would work at all it would be darned awkward.

There’s the proof, women are physics.
Like Zack said, that is pretty cool with what you did with the leaves. Makes it seem to connect the 2 panels.

No wonder I did so poorly in Physics class.

Sometimes, when your flask is dry, you just gotta call it a day.

Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere but I couldn’t find it on this site. Are you going to collect this into print? Me likey likey.

LA Rabbit: Yes, eventually we would like to produce a collected edition in print.

i gotta agree with everybody on the leaves panel. As soon as the page came up you get that sinister feeling of being watched. very cool.

Yep, left leg is in the stirrup, he’s in the process of pulling himself up before he swings his right leg over.

Like the green. And the look between Scruffy and his horse is nice.

Still, awesome art overall.

Remember what he’s just been through – I think he’s climbing up slow and ginger-like, not swinging on quick and easy…

I’m not liking this pearl lady, somethings up her butt.
And will someone just stop confusing the big guy.
