So the kids getting Cocky and I can see us having a revenge trip going on very soon as well…

    Great work guys!

  2. Jim B.

I like how you used the candle expiring to mean death.

  3. AlpineBob

I didn’t get that at all, Jim – I thought Shoushan was just conserving energy because candles are expensive! But now that you point it out the syymbolism is pretty clear – light to dark. Bright moon on one side, black bird on the other.
    Breathe again? Nevermore….

  4. Jess

    Excellent storytelling. 🙂

There’s that crow on the town sign again. Somebody oughta shoot that thing. Those crows are always a bad sign.

The character moments the past few weeks have been really great. They’re brief, but they’re nice little insights and reminders of who these characters are

  7. Dean

Wow! Great story pacing with the candle and the man’s death, as well as the split in the middle of the strip to separate the humorous from the serious. Really wonderful!

  8. MikeEllis

I don’t think the boy is dead. It’s unusual to spend so much time on a character that’s really done very little only to kill him off so simply.

And if he’s not dead, what else could the candle mean, if anything?

  9. A.P.Bones

There’s going to some cool revenge action coming up here soon like! I can’t wait! I’m sure the art and writing is going to be kick ass! Great job as always guys.

    bummer…

  12. PeterWatson

I feel really sad fer’ the big guy. The art even made me fell sadder.

  13. Brent

7 years bad luck there fella. Nice imagery with the candle thing. That crow reminds me of a line from The Simpson’s. It’s a murder, honey. A group of crows is called a muuurder.

I’ve just read the entire series from page one to now. I had been trying to wait it out until you eventually printed something that I could hold in my hands, but finally caved. I’m not a big fan of reading web comics because of the waiting between pages and the fact that my old eyes aren’t what they used to be… but this web comic is sooooo freakin’ good that I think I’ve become instantly addicted to it now. I don’t know how I’m going to bear waiting from page to page now.

I’m in awe of how incredible an artist that Dave has become. I’ really shocked that he hasn’t been scooped up by Marvel or DC already, because he’s heads and shoulders above a lot of guys already in “the big leagues” as it were. But it isn’t just the art that makes this strip so strong – it’s a great concept and story as well. The slow build up and introduction of characters have created a real strong sense of anticipation within me – I really can’t wait for the next page!
