Windy City Comicon Report

Monday, November 3rd, 2008 by Dave Wachter

Last, last weekend, (yes way back then) I exhibited at the first annual Windy City Comicon. Organized by my buddies from the Around Comics podcast: Brion Salazar and Chris Neseman, the goal was to bring a comic convention back within the city boarders and have it focus on, get this, COMICS! It was a bit of an ordeal for me to attend the show. I had just moved away from Chicago just the weekend before, to my new place in Cincinnati. Once everything was in the new apartment(I’ve got too much stuff. A 17ft truck worth and then some!) I unpacked the computer and drawing table first so I could knock out the sketch pre-orders.

Heroes Con 2009 Report

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 by Dave Wachter

It’s Tuesday as I write this, I got home after a long drive last night, the con has been over for two days, but I’m still feeling it’s affects. This was my first venture to Charlotte and the Heroes Convention. I had heard many great things about this show, my expectations were high, and I was not disappointed. This is a really great show. You can see all my pics from the show on my flickr account. (more…)

Comic-Con 2009 wrap-up

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 by James Andrew Clark

I realize it’s a couple days late, but here’s my report on Comic-Con International.

I just got back from the San Diego trip last night. I made a slight detour to Disneyland on the way home, so that’s why this report is late. And I am sorry to say it, but my con report this year won’t be nearly as exciting as any of the reports Dave gives for the shows he goes to. He always has lots of neat commission pictures, and he knows way more industry people than I do. As for me, I brought my family with me and so most of my pictures are of them. However, I do have a couple shots of celebrities who stopped by the Dial R Studios booth to get a look at The Guns of Shadow Valley:

Mark Sheppard from “Battlestar Galactica”, “Firefly” and “24” (and his son):

I thought the show this year was a lot of fun, but there seemed to be way more focus on movies and television than on comics. I realize Comic-Con has been like that for the last several years, but this year it was more evident than most. A lot of the foot traffic was heading past book sellers on their way to the movie studio booths. A few vendors I spoke with said their sales were dismal, and a few people went so far as to say “Twilight ruined Comic-Con” because so many of the attendees were there just for Twilight panels and merchandise. I’m not sure I follow the logic of that complaint, but whatever, I still had fun.

We bought our 3-year-old kids a couple of toy cameras so they could take pictures at the show. After the page break is what Comic-Con looked like to my daughter…

Pittsburgh and Windy City Comicon sketch pre-orders!

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 by Dave Wachter

I am now accepting sketch pre-orders for Pittsburgh Comicon (Sept. 11-13) and Windy City Comicon (Sept. 19). If you’re going to either of these cons, you can email me with a pre-order, which I will have finished and available to pick up at my table. I will be doing sketches at my table as well, but this helps me keep up with the demand I often receive and the sketches typically turn out better when I do them at home. The price structure is as follows:

Head sketch: 9×12, ink and grey tone= $15
Mini Commission: 9×12, ink and tone= $30 for the 1st character, $10 each additional.
Full Commission: 11×17, ink and tone= $100 1st character, $30 each additional.

You can pre-pay via PayPal to avoid carrying so much cash at the con, or you can pay me when you pick it up at the show. Just send me an email at [email protected]

Space is limited, so sign up early!

Here’s a few examples( you can see more on my art blog):

I’m back from CGS Supershow, but still feeling it’s affects on mind and body. This was my first con of the year and it was the perfect way to kick off the con season. The bar has been set high for all the other events I’ll be attending. (more…)
